stevie wonder

so i dont think anyone but my mom read the entire post about the externship. but it mentioned that judge hatter was being honored by the l.a. mayor and the city council at the black history month commencement meeting at city hall. the other people being honored were former mayor tom bradley's widow and stevie wonder. before the meeting we went with the judge to a 'pre'ception where there were bagels and coffee etc. anyways, i was standing in the middle of the room with the other extern when someone yelled 'excuse me' and threw us aside as though we were people that were just lucky to be there. well, we were, because we were standing in the path of stevie wonder. he walked right by us. i was within arms length of him, though i dont think he saw me (obligatory). i would have touched him except that he had a massive bodyguard following him. just a huge guy. ever wonder what happens to all the massive collegiate athletes that are illiterate and never make it to the pros? they are bodyguards. anyways, other highlights from the day included: 1. not having to work all morning. 2. hearing stevie wonder sing happy birthday to the mayor's widow, twice. it was her birthday that day so he had a reason to sing for everyone. what are the odds? 1 in 365? or is it 365 to 1? i dont gamble enough. 3. having an lapd officer tell the other extern and i we couldnt exit through a door because people would see us and we were 'eye sores.'

anyways, here are two photos from the day. the one photo is of stevie (we are on a first name basis) and my judge shaking hands with mayor villagairosa standing in the background. the other picture is at the lunch reception after the council meeting. i also recorded stevie singing happy birthday.
